ChangeUp is a UK government initiative aimed at improving the capacity of the voluntary and community sector to deliver public services by 2014.
This is being achieved through strengthening voluntary, community and faith sector (VCFS) infrastructure organisations.
Infrastructure organisations are those whose primary purpose is to support other voluntary, community and faith sector organisations.
An infrastructure organisation could be a locally based organisation such as a Council for Voluntary Service or a thematically based organisation dealing with issues such as disability, faith or social inclusion. These are the organisations that provide the sector with the capacity to deliver and provide a voice for the sector.
On Merseyside the ChangeUp Consortium consists of 18 infrastructure organisations, with Sefton Council for Voluntary Service being the lead and accountable body
The primary aim of Greater Merseyside ChangeUp is that by 2014 ‘every frontline organisation; where ever it is based, what ever it exists to do and whom ever it exists to serve; will be able to access what ever support it needs either to maintain itself or to grow sustainably’.
